This collection recognises that the industrial production of material goods consumes natural resources and generates waste. The projects aim to redefine the role of furniture designers by valuing and utilizing discarded materials. It proposes ways for designers to act as decomposers by finding alternative uses for industrial by-products. Field trips were conducted to various production sites to explore and utilize available resources for designing furniture and domestic objects. Unlike traditional mass production, each design is influenced by the site-specific by-products and circumstances of the collaborating companies. The goal is to transform and recontextualize these industrial by-products, giving them a new narrative and celebrating their origin and atmosphere. This is an appreciation of our materials and processes.
