TITLE:
Pine Stool
YEAR:
2021
MATERIAL:
Pine wood, natural & sandblasted
SIZE:
H:42cm Ø:36cm
The shape of the stool is determined by using a standard 10cm x 10cm solid construction timber, which is a locally sourced and fast-growing material commonly used for building sheds and garden fences. Although not inherently fancy, the wood turner's skill transforms it into a desirable material. The chunky appearance of the stool is a result of preserving as much of the wood as possible during the woodturning process and enhancing the graphical effect of the end grain by creating a proper radius. The untreated and sensitive surface intentionally contrasts with the uncommon handling and weight. Over time, scratches and dents will appear, allowing the stool to tell the story of its use. To a certain extent, living with this piece of pine will require some mindfulness. The changing color will make this piece of furniture age gracefully from a pale beige to a rich yellow. Embracing these imperfections completes the design and involves the user in creation of the object.
