The pieces in the exhibition "Soft Works" are the result of a two-month investigation into the field of soft materials. Natural and synthetic, permanent and ephemeral, virgin and reclaimed elements are juxtaposed in a living room context. Common notions of touch, permanence and comfort are challenged.
The process was initiated with the aim of expanding Tableau's index of industrial materials. With an increased awareness of soft materials in general, traditional upholstery processes were bypassed. By exploring a series of different gestures within the production, the designs were selected to highlight the material's properties. As an experiment, a rather strange choice of materials is intended to stimulate the senses.
Although the collection of materials and processes is very diverse, the objects are linked by their matching production marks. Silicone seams become steel welds, broken cork edges become rubber granulate contours and expanding foam volumes become collapsing blocks of wax.
