As a continuous stream of materialisation, the Graywacke Offcut Series continues the initial idea from 2020 of using industrial by-products from a quarry to create objects that challenge the common perception of home furnishings. By increasing the storytelling aspect of an object, comfort and functionality become secondary.

The solo exhibition ‘Sourcing Stone’ by Side Gallery in Barcelona includes the largest continuation of the Graywacke Series to date. For this occasion, the potentials of the series as well as physical limitations have been challenged to create a body of work including 21 stone objects. As with the initial series in the Heavy Duty Collection 2020, this project uses industrial by-products from a stone quarrying and manufacturing company. From the quarry to the finished stone product, various shapes and sizes of offcuts occur. By using the appropriate gluing technique, these elements can be assembled to create domestic objects without any dimensional changes of the pieces. The key is to patiently search for the right one among the accumulated offcuts.
